LeCLAIRE, Iowa (NEWS3) – The Illinois Department of Transportation announced a washing and cleaning project on the I-80 Mississippi River bridge in the Quad Cities will be suspended.
Following the levee failure in downtown Davenport on Tuesday, traffic on two metro bridges are impacted. The Centennial Bridge and Government Bridge are both affected by floodwaters as they end at 2nd Street in the downtown, which was dry until the levee collapsed.
I-74 and the I-74 bridge are also seeing major delays due to construction of the new freeway and bridge.
The bridge washing and cleaning project on the I-80 bridge would have closed lanes for several weeks, leaving the I-280 bridge as the only metro bridge that would be fully open or unaffected by construction and flooding.
IDOT cites increased traffic on the I-80 bridge as the reason for the delay in the project.
