Purple and Gold Day, Western Challenge celebrates founding of Western Illinois University

WESTERN ILLINOIS UNIVERSITY, Macomb (NEWS3) – Western Illinois University will host its annual Purple and Gold Day and Western Challenge on Wednesday, April 24.

According to the university, Purple and Gold Day is designed for alumni, students and staff to come together and celebrate the founding of WIU.

The tradition of celebrating Purple and Gold Day at Western began on April 24, 2000 with the closing of the university’s 100-year celebration, marking the day when the Illinois Legislature approved the creation of WIU in 1899.

The Western Challenge is an online giving campaign to improve opportunities for students. This year’s goal is to raise $150,000.
