MACOMB, Illinois (NEWS3) – An Illinois State trooper killed in the line-of-duty Saturday had worked at Aurelio’s Pizza while he was a student at Western Illinois University.
Trooper Gerald Ellis was traveling home on the I-94 westbound in Green Oaks when a wrong-way driver struck Ellis head on.
Ellis was transported to the hospital with life threatening injuries, where he later died.
In a Facebook post Sunday, Gelsosomo’s Pizza, formerly Aurelio’s, said Ellis “worked at Aurelio’s during his college career at WIU and was one of the nicest guys some of us had ever met.”
Trooper Ellis was an 11 year veteran of ISP District 15 in Downers Grove.
Ellis was the second ISP trooper to be killed last week after Trooper Brooke Jones-Story was killed in an accident on Thursday, March 28.
