COLCHESTER, Illinois (NEWS3) — Officers responded to a self-inflicted shooting in Colchester Monday.
According to McDonough County Sheriff Nick Petitgout, one person was transported to the hospital via helicopter.
The incident occurred near the corner of Market Street and Allen Street.
First responders made use of West Prairie Middle School’s parking lot for a helicopter landing pad.
Despite reports the school was placed on lockdown, the district superintendent’s office said the school coordinated with authorities and the school was not placed on lockdown.
