Illinois State Trooper, squad car struck by semi near St. Louis

COLLINSVILLE, Illinois (NEWS3) β€” An Illinois State Trooper and his squad car were both struck by a semi Wednesday night.

According to the Illinois State Police, troopers responded to an accident on the northbound I-55 after a vehicle struck a light pole.

The pole then fell across the freeway and seven additional vehicles struck the pole before ISP arrived.

Three squad cars responded to the accident, the third car parking further from the scene to alert drivers to move over and slow down.

The trooper was on foot when both he and his squad car were struck by a semi just after 10:42 p.m.

The trooper was transported to the hospital with serious injuries.

This is the 14th ISP squad car struck in 2019.
