Des Moines police catch children from third floor of burning building

DES MOINES, Iowa (WHO) – Four Des Moines police officers are being hailed as heroes after catching children thrown from the third floor of a burning building.

O’Sheana Harrison and her three children were trapped inside their burning apartment building.

When police arrived, Harrison was forced to toss her children out of their third floor window to the officers below.

“He was like ‘you got to trust me,’ and I don’t trust nobody with my kids, but at that point in time all I thought was ‘I had to get them out,'” Harrison said.

The officers comforted the children while firefighters rescued Harrison.

The four officers, identified as senior police officers Cole Johnson, Craig Vasquez, Casey Sanders and Tyler Kelley of the Des Moines Police Department, are being thanked for their efforts.

“I can’t say thank you enough to them. I owe them the world because they saved my world,” Harrison said.

The cause of the fire is under investigation.
