IOWA CITY, Iowa (NEWS3) – A University of Iowa student is dead after being found outside of a campus building Wednesday.

According to a release from the university, University of Iowa Police discovered Gerald Belz unresponsive behind Halsey Hall at approximately 2:48 a.m. Wednesday.

Belz was transported to the hospital where he later died.

“No foul play is suspected. Though the investigation is ongoing, the cause of death is believed to be weather related,” the statement reads.

Belz was a pre-medicine major in his second semester with enough credits to be considered a sophomore.

“Prayers go out to all affected by this tragedy. Rest In Peace, Gerald. Kennedy students: we will have counselors available when we return to school for any support you may need. Please visit the counseling office to speak to any of our counselors,” tweeted Jason Kline, principal of Cedar Rapids Kennedy, where Belz graudated.
