Latest on winter storm Friday night into Saturday

MACOMB, Illinois (NEWS3) – Chances for several inches of snow are increasing as a system pushes towards western Illinois.

Snow will begin across western Illinois between 6 p.m. and 8 p.m. Friday.

Snow will switch from a light to moderate snowfall late Friday evening into the overnight hours, the heaviest of which will occur between midnight and into Saturday.

4-6″ is possible for western Illinois with most of the heavier snowfall staying to the north. Areas along and north of I-80 could see 8-10″+ of snow.

Temperatures will remain cooler keeping snow lightweight while high winds could cause blowing and drifting snow.

Expect reduced visibility and slick conditions Friday night through Saturday.

A WINTER STORM WATCH is in effect for much of eastern Iowa and western Illinois until Saturday afternoon.
