Authorities confirm missing child story was hoax

PEORIA, Illinois (NEWS3) – Authorities confirm that the report of a missing child in the backseat of a car stolen in Farmington, prompting and AMBER Alert, was a hoax.

In a social media post, the Peoria County Sheriff’s Office says the story was fabricated.

There is no child in danger.

Police have one suspect in custody, but they did not confirm if it was in connection to the fabrication of the story.

Authorities released new information Saturday evening about what led to the fabricated story.
