A student at Western Illinois University says she was followed by a man hiding in some bushes near Lincoln, Washington, and Grote Halls on campus.
In a report obtained by NEWS3 from the university’s Office of Public Safety, the student was walking from her room to her vehicle in L-lot at about 1 a.m. Saturday morning.
The report says she heard something in the tall grass on the hill near Washington Hall and saw a man who then yelled at her. The man then started down the hill towards her.
“When the subject began down the hill, [student name withheld] ran to her car,” the report states.
The subject was no longer following the student after she reached her vehicle.
The student wrote on Twitter “PSA to everyone living in Linc/ Wash/ Grote. The other night around 1am a male jumped out from the weed area by the steps and chased me to ‘L’ lot near my car until he realized I was on the phone getting help. Don’t walk anywhere alone, or go anywhere without protection!”
In the report, the same student says that she and another friend heard similar sounds in the bushes early Friday morning around the same time, but did not see anyone at that time.
The subject is described as a black male with a shaved head wearing a black shirt and black shorts.
The incident was sent in an email to Resident Advisors on campus; however in the public safety report sent from OPS for Sept. 14- Sept. 16 , the incident was not included.
NEWS3 will have continuing coverage on Live at Four including comment from OPS, University Relations, and the student involved.
