With over 1,300 people in attendance, WIU’s University Union Board hosted “West Fest.” This event brought big name artists to the WIU campus like pop star singer and songwriter Jesse McCartney and rapper Waka Flocka Flame.
The event took place in the University Union Grand Ballroom and had many people from outside of the Macomb area and out of state come to the event.
“This year we wanted to do something big for WIU students and for the public by bringing two well known famous artists to the area,” said Courtney Brown, who is the president for University Union Board.
The celebration also featured a live opening performance by electronic music DJ and producer DJ RECKLESS.
Reflecting on the crowd, Brown said, “We did not expect this event to be this big especially with many people coming from different cities and different states to see these two artists.” She continued, “Tickets for the meet and greet for Jesse McCartney sold out so quickly.”
As for next year, the University Union Board staff are looking into bringing a more bigger famous artist or artists to the WIU campus.
