WIU and Macomb raise money for YMCA Membership Fees

Freezin For A Reason formerly known as the Nearly Naked Mile returned for its fourth year at the Western Illinois University Campus Recreation.

The event is a mile walk or run which benefits the YMCA of McDonough County by raising money for kids to have memberships at the YMCA.

The WIU Campus Recreation Intern Jesse Geer said Brown Shoe Company, Jackson Street Pub and the Cambridge Property Group were some of the sponsors of the program.

Geer said the event started with an employee who participated in a polar bear plunge at their former school and wanted a program similar to it at WIU.

The CEO of YMCA in McDonough County Carla Teslicka said the event usually raises $1,000 or $2,000.

“We are just really glad that we are able to be a part of their community,” Teslicka said. “The YMCA and WIU get along great together.”

Assistant Director Dustin Van Sloten said the event raised $1,107.
