Morgan Blumer named Summit League Female Athlete of the Month

ELMHURST, Ill.- The Summit League announced today that Western Illinois women’s basketball’s Morgan Blumer is the Female Athlete of the Month representing all Summit League sponsored sports. Blumer is the first Leatherneck to receive the honor since Ashley Luke did so in December of 2014.

Blumer averaged 21.9 points per game and 7.4 rebounds per game in the month of January. She also gained national recognition for a 75 foot buzzer beating heave from the opposite free throw line heading into halftime on January 25 versus IUPUI. The shot was up to number one on ESPN SportsCenter’s Top 10 plays.

Blumer is the second leading scorer on the Leathernecks and paces the team in rebounds.

In addition to the monthly honor, Blumer’s teammate Emily Clemens was recently named Summit League Player of the Week and to the NCAA women’s basketball starting five of the week.

Western Illinois women’s basketball is off to its best start since 2005-06.
