Oakwood Cemetery Becomes Historical Landmark

A special place in Macomb is becoming a historical landmark.

Oakwood Cemetery holds lots of history from the important people who lie there. Doctor Tom Carper is the organizer of Friends of Oakwood Cemetery, and says, “The cemetery is important because the founders of Macomb are buried there.”

cemeteryCarper also says the city used to hold an annual parade in the cemetery on Memorial Day Weekend.

Besides the founders of Macomb, there are more than 270 Civil War Veterans in the landmark.

The cemetery will receive the plaques sometime in the spring. Visitors can expect to see them on the entrance sign and then the chapel inside the cemetery.
