Local Teacher Nominated for State Award

Bess Thompson, a first grade teacher at Lincoln Elementary School has been nominated for the Illinois Presidential Award for Excellence in Mathematics and Science teaching.

Thompson is one of five nominees in the state joining three finalists from the Chicago area and one from the St. Louis metro area. The teacher had to submit a video of the lesson along with a written narrative.presidential-award

There will be a winner announced in both the math and science category.

“She’s a veteran teacher on our staff and clearly Bess does an outstanding job and always has the kids best interests in mind,” Macomb Schools Superintendent Dr. Patrick Twomey said. “She always goes above and behind both inside and outside the classroom.”
