Illinois State Police Issues Snow Warning

cars-on-snowy-highwayThe month of December brings holiday cheer and is a special time for families to come together. The Illinois State Police warns drivers that are making the commute back to their respective areas, to be safe and to heed all traffic laws. The weekend weather forecast calls for snow on Sunday afternoon so the use of extra caution on the roadways is advised. Officials hope motorists watch their speed while traveling down the highways to avoid major traffic accidents and injuries.

Stay on the lookout for black ice, sleet, and other areas that are seemingly clear but covered in ice. They have also issued a “non-speeding” advisory because of the changing weather conditions. An increase in following distance and braking speed is also recommended when you approach multiple cars on the highways. Place extra blankets and warm clothing inside your vehicle if it breaks down and you become stranded. With the drastic change in temperatures, the best thing to do is to stay with your vehicle until help arrives.
