“Stop the silence, end the violence” was music to people’s ears during WIU’s Take Back the Night event.
The WIU Women’s Center and the Western Illinois Regional Council organized the 27th annual Take Back the Night rally. President Jack Thomas and Mayor Inman were there to the kick the night off.
The rally takes place each year to raise awareness regarding gender–based violence and sexual assault.
This year’s theme was “teaming up to end violence.”
A keynote speaker spoke sharing her experiences as a previous nurse and working closely with rape victims. She says you can’t always notice signs and symptoms because everyone handles life differently.
The hope is to work proactively to march and find a solution to those who may feel alone, lost, or are in need of help.
