Severe Weather Strikes McDonough County

It was an active day for severe weather across the Tri-States Region Wednesday. Many areas saw damaging winds, large hail, and even tornadoes. For Macomb, a small tornado got pretty close to the area.

A Tornado Warning was issued just north of Macomb at around 4:20 PM Wednesday afternoon. This was after chasers and spotters saw a small tornado in Northwestern McDonough County and it tracked North through the county. It eventually moved into Warren County where it eventually weakened. Outbuildings were destroyed near Sciota, a grain bin was destroyed, and some trees were knocked down. However, we did not receive any reports of injuries or fatalities, but we did receive a lot of pictures and boy were they amazing. The tornado was rated an EF-1 on the Enhanced Fujita Scale on December 24. This means the tornado had winds ranging from 86-110 MPH.
