Nielson was named the Missouri Valley Football Conference Coach of the Year after leading Western Illinois University football team to a 7-6 record and the second round of the FCS Playoffs.

Interim Athletic Director Matt Tanney said in a press release, “There are many positives around the football program, including the return of a talented, young nucleus of student-athletes and a majority of returners on both sides of the ball.  I intend to move quickly to find the right person to lead our football program at the championship level.”

WIU will hold a press conference Monday at 3 pm regarding their football program.

According to the University of South Dakota website, Athletic Director David Herbster called for a press conference at 1 p.m. Tuesday to announce the hiring of Bob Nielson as the head football coach.
