In a budget meeting earlier today President Jack Thomas addressed the public about growing concerns with the state budget impasse. In his speech President Jack Thomas told the large crowd of spectators that 50 faculty positions could be eliminated as well as some programs. According to President Thomas WIU is facing an inevitable change and the University is planning to implement a multi-faceted plan to save the University money.
The first part of this plan is the retirement incentive program. As of now 50 employees have taking the offer and will retire by the end of this month. The University is also proposing to reduce tuition for new, incoming students. Another way WIU plans to save money is through reductions towards programs, services and personnel. Programs will be cut based on program enrollment and review.
Personnel reductions would not take into
effect until July 1st, 2016
