Illinois Governor Bruce Rauner has signed a bill promoted by Representative Norine Hammond of Macomb.
It concerns the Department of Children and Family Services.
Hammond said she spoke to a constituent who was unable to visit their grandchild. The child was under the care of the state.
In response, Hammond’s wrote a bill that will require the courts to consider permitting grandparents to visit children when parents may not be allowed to.
Hammond said she hopes the bill will allow grandparents to play a greater part in the lives of grandchildren under the state’s care.
