Macomb residents will see water bill increase

Water BillsYour water bill will soon be a little more expensive. That’s because the Macomb City Council has approved an increase to water rates, sewer rates, and solid waste collection fees.

Minimum water rates will increase 17 cents from $5.41 to $5.58. An additional 100 cubic feet will now cost $4.65, up from $4.51.

Sewer rates have increased 9 cents from $2.85 to $2.94 per 100 cubic feet. The minimum charge has increased from $3.42 to $3.53.

Garbage collection has increased 50 cents from a minimum charge of $17.50 to $18.00. These rates will also apply to Colchester because of their water agreement.

Last week, Jason Orris, an alderman of Colchester, urged Macomb not to raise rates. Alderman-at-Large Don Wynn agreed with Orris, voting against the ordinance due to several resident complaints. The ordinance passed by a vote of 8-1, as other alderman agreed that a slight increase now will defer from a dramatic increase later.
